Lake Toba, Komodo, Krakatau Isles Nominated For New 7 wonders Of Nature

The New7Wonders Foundation has nominated three locations in Indonesia, namely Komodo Isle National Park (East Nusa Tenggara), Lake Toba (North Sumatra), and Krakatau Isle (off sothern Sumatra) for world recognition as part of New7Wonders of Nature for the period 2008-2010, a tourism official said.

The campaign of selection New7Wonders of Nature candidates is being done through a live-vote method on www.new7wonders.com, Antara news agency reported.

Nestled between the large Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra is the Krakatau Volcano National Park.

In the fourth century, a single marine volcano stood at this site, but in 416 AD, the caldera of the volcano collapsed.

Indonesia's Komodo National Park includes the three larger islands Komodo, Rinca and Padar, as well as numerous smaller ones, for a total area of 1,817 square kilometers (603 square kilometers of it land). The national park was founded in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon.

A Yogyakarta-Kyoto Dance Performance

In silence, 15 dancers on stage came to a dead stop, listening to the percussion music played by Inisisri. Under a shower of red confetti, the dancers set their eyes on a long-haired man wearing an orange robe.

Inisisri, the percussionist with the Kantata Takwa and Swami band, performed for less than five minutes. Yet, it was a sweet closure to a modern dance performance, a collaboration of the Bimo Dance Theatre and Japan’s Dinyos Dance Company, held at the Taman Budaya Concert Hall in Yogyakarta, last Monday evening.

Ten female members of the Dinyos Dance Company and five male dancers from the Bimo Dance Theatre performed a ballet titled ‘Jiwa’ (Soul) as the finale of the show.

The collaboration between Bimo Wiwohatmo (head of Bimo Dance Theatre) and Takashi Watanabe (head of Dinyos Dance Company) revealed people’s lives that are often filled with hope, vengeance, conflict and love. “This joy is beyond our expectations,” Takashi said.

Takashi, 51, founded the Dinyos Dance Company, whose members are all women, in 1990. He studied modern art, jazz, and ballet in Boston, USA.

The two dance groups will present the same performance in Kyoto and Nigata in Japan in November. “The presentation is part of the "Sister City" program between Yogyakarta and Kyoto," said Bimo.

INDONESIA: Govt takes foreign bloggers to Yogyakarta, Bali

The government has invited five foreign bloggers on a round trip to Yogyakarta and Bali, in a hope that they will write about their experiences and promote Indonesia.

"We hope they write about lesser-known tourist spots in Yogyakarta and Bali," she said after a press conference on Pesta Blogger 2008.

Jetstar's Bali flight full despite terror warnings

JETSTAR'S inaugural Perth to Bali flight was packed today despite an updated warning on travel to the Indonesian island.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade updated its travel advice for Indonesia on Friday, warning the imminent executions of the Bali bombers would compound an already significant terrorism risk.

The update followed Friday's announcement by Indonesia that the three Islamic militants would be put before a firing squad in early November for their roles in the 2002 Bali nightclub bombings.

Jetstar corporate relations general manager Simon Westaway said the travel warning had been in place for many years, but Bali remained a popular destination for Australians.

"The level of warning isn't changed but they did reissue an advisory and we will obviously be continuing to monitor the situation,'' Mr Westaway said.

"The important point to make is the existing warning has been in place for Bali for many years now.''

The Perth service will fly tri-weekly initially before being boosted to four times a week in December, Mr Westaway said.

"Bali has returned as a destination for Australians, it has in many ways always been Australia's leading international playground in terms of visitation,'' he said.

search continues for missing tourist on bali

Authorities on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali are continuing their search for a British jetskier who went missing four days ago.

British national Jeremy Hoyland, a 41-year-old race director for the Asian Beach Games 2008, went missing off the Nusa Dua resort area on Friday.

"An extensive air and sea search operations have so far failed to locate Hoyland and his red Yamaha jetski," rescue coordinator Heru Taryoto told AFP.

"We have told people in Bali, Lombok, Nusa Penida and small neighbouring islands to try to find him," he said.

Mr Hoyland's wife Jackie and brother Nicholas have travelled to Bali to help with the search.

A friend of the missing jetskier has offered a $US10,000 reward to anyone who can find him.
